The President's Cake

In 1990's Iraq nine-year-old Lamia has been picked from her class to make a cake to celebrate the birthday of Saddam Hussein, the country's president. People across the country are struggling to survive so the task is an onerous one but Lamia sets off into town with her grandmother and her pet cockerel, Hindi. Meeting a series of vivid characters, she uses her wits and imagination to gather the scarce ingredients for the mandatory cake, or face the consequences.
