In this honest and heartfelt drama we follow two sisters on their much anticipated trip to Paris. The elder, Inger, played by Sophie Grabol, suffers from schizophrenia, and lives in a psychiatric clinic with carers and an over-protective mother. Younger Ellen sees the holiday as an opportunity to bond with her sister and encourage her independence.
Travelling on an organised coach trip the two sisters encounter an antagonistic fellow passenger. His distaste for Inger’s illness, and resurfacing memories, make for a challenging trip.
“The writer-director, Niels Arden Oplev, based the film in part on his own experiences, and the movie keenly illustrates how stigma surrounding mental illness hurts neurodivergent people and their families.” Natalia Winkelman, New York Times
